ENGAGED MR3 Center

We are a national resource dedicated to advancing community-engaged medical rehabilitation research. Our mission is to strengthen the capacity of researchers, people with disabilities, care partners, clinicians, and community organizations to conduct rigorous, authentic, and ethical research with, by, and for people with disabilities.

Community-engaged research recognizes that people most affected by health conditions bring essential expertise to the research process. By partnering with communities as coequal collaborators, this approach enhances scientific rigor, spurs innovation, and supports the development, dissemination, and implementation of meaningful and sustainable solutions to real-world challenges.

Community-engaged research is particularly well-suited to addressing social determinants of health and improving outcomes that matter to people with disabilities and their care partners, including health, well-being, participation, and quality of life. By fostering shared decision-making and mutual learning, community-engaged research helps transform relationships among researchers, providers, and communities.

ENGAGED offers a wide array of resources, supports, and opportunities to advance community-engaged rehabilitation research.

Within the ENGAGED Center, we understand and embrace the many roles that people with disabilities hold within the broad field of medical rehabilitation. We aim to continuously expand that community through the intentional and targeted co-creation of original research as well as the development, implementation, and sharing of resources and trainings.

ENGAGED MR3 is funded by the National Institutes of Health (P50HD118631) and is part of a national network of centers dedicated to strengthening the medical rehabilitation research infrastructure.
